Building the UK's first school
Test Track

We are planning the construction of a Greenpower test track on the Baysgarth School site.  As a Greenpower Centre of Excellence, Baysgath has pioneered innovative practices in Design Technology, both inside and outside the classroom, and the development of this test track will further enhance this work for current and future students, along with the wider local community.

Our Story So Far

Over the past six years, the Baysgarth Design Engineering team has championed Greenpower and made a significant impact on the landscape.  Having been recognised as a Centre of Excellence two years ago, the school has cultivated a real passion for STEM and sustainable energy, whilst providing students with some phenomenal experiences, including attending the Internationals Finals at the iconic Silverstone Track and Goodwood Motor Circuit.

2018-2020

Using limited resources and F24 Greenpower kit cars acquired in 2015, a small group of students assembled one fully functioning and tested car to race on the streets of Hull.

Towards the end of the 2019 Greenpower season, the team qualified for the International Finals at Silverstone.

Our curriculum model was redesigned, embedding Greenpower into the Engineering Gateway Project and Inspire Time sessions to impact a greater number of students.

2020-2022

Our innovative delivery of Greenpower projects was recognised nationally and an application to become a Greenpower Centre of Excellence was submitted.

In January 2022, Greenpower Centre of Excellence status was awarded to our Design Technology department for the North Lincolnshire region.

2022-2024

The Greenpower team grew exponentially during the 2022 race season, with over 50 students attending the qualifying heat at Blyton Park racing four cars.  Baysgarth qualified for a place at the International Finals at Goodwood.

In 2024, an application was submitted to develop the UK's first test track at a school.  Regional and national sponsors were secured, and with significant financial backing from North Lincolnshire Council, the proposal was approved with an anticipated completion date of Autumn 2025.

The Impact

Increased Student Engagement

The uptake in Engineering has significantly increased, with more and more students choosing this as an Option at Key Stage 4

Successful Outcomes

Design Technology consistently achieves phenomenal outcomes and the number of female students studying Engineering now accounts for almost a third of the cohort.

Future Prospects

More and more students leaving Baysgarth to go on to study or secure Apprenticeships in the fields of Engineering with global companies such as Croda and Ineos.
