The Track

The Plans

The test track will be positioned on the existing lower field at Baysgarth behind the school site.  You can see a virtual lap of the track here, along with a rendering of the proposed structure which is currently pending planning permission following a consultation period.

Over the course of the past 12 months, we have approached a variety of companies and organisations to garner support with the project, practically and financially.  Tireless efforts, largely by our own students, have resulted in securing almost £140,000 of funding to bring the track to fruition.

The development of the track is anticipated to commence in April 2025 with a projected completion date of Autumn.

Part of the process is to conduct a public consultation, which will take place on Thursday 27th February.  We want to have as much input from the local community as possible to help guide the planning and development of the project to ensure the Greenpower test track meets the needs of the community and provides valuable educational opportunities for students, now and in the future.

Benefits of the Track

The primary function of the track will be as a Greenpower Centre of Excellence test track.

The additional resource of the test track will enable more realistic and in-depth testing for students to collect data for analysis in their decision making for a race day, further increasing our resources as a hub for higher quality, real world STEM based learning.

Community

The test track will also have many secondary functions, including hosting Greenpower Goblin events for primary age children, all weather running track for PE and local running clubs, bicycle proficiency training, and wellbeing activities such as walking meetings or behaviour interventions.

Furthermore, it will promote social responsibility and enhance company ethos.

Sustainability

The test track will be partially constructed from recycled plastic that is processed in school, supported by MacRebur who add this as an additive to the tarmac surface. This promotes sustainable and green technologies with clear environmental benefits.

This product saves 11.32kg of CO2e per tonne of asphalt, meaning the entire project's carbon footprint is reduced by 2.2kg; the equivalent of taking almost 320,000 plastic bottles out of landfill.  The knock-on effect through education continues through young people's lives and their families making conscious environmental decisions.

Collaboration

The test track will offer an opportunity for local partnerships with businesses and organisations which will increase the educational opportunities for local young people.

In turn, this will offer local economic benefits promotion of a collaborative approach within educarion employability skills and recrutiment.

Additionally, it will offer opportunities to build on already existing strong partnerships with local schools to hire facilities as a STEM resource and sharing good practice.

On the Map

The test track will put North Lincolnshire on the map!

As the first school test track in the United Kingdom, the project will enhance local pride and visibility for Baysgarth School.

This monumental achievement would be inspirational for engineers and scientists of the future that we can support and guide to success.
